Common Questions
Will a TKMAUTO bed cap fit my Ford Trucks?
Our aluminum caps are engineered to fit Ford Trucks factory bed rails across multiple model years. Use the fitment finder to confirm your specific year, trim, and bed length before ordering. For questions, email info@tkmauto.com with your year and trim.
How long does installation take on a Ford Trucks?
Most Ford Trucks owners complete the install in 75-90 minutes with two people and basic hand tools. No drilling required — the cap secures to existing bed rail holes with stainless clamps included.
Solid panels or sliding glass windows — which should I pick?
Both options available for the Ford Trucks. Solid aluminum panels offer maximum security and weather resistance. Sliding glass windows provide rear visibility and cab-bed ventilation. Same shell, your choice based on whether you prioritize cargo lockdown or daily access.
What does the cap weigh? Will it affect my MPG?
Approximately 180 lb total — about 35% lighter than typical fiberglass alternatives (which average 280 lb). Most Ford Trucks drivers report no measurable MPG impact in mixed driving.
How does shipping work?
Ships free via LTL freight from our Pomona, California warehouse to all 50 U.S. states. Carrier contacts you to schedule curbside delivery. Tracking provided once the cap leaves the dock.
Can I add a roof rack or cross bars on top of the cap?
Yes. TKMAUTO sells T-slot compatible cross bars ($259.98) and a universal aluminum roof rack platform ($459) designed to mount directly to the cap. Both fit most TKMAUTO caps and many ARE / Leer / SnugTop models.
What's the static and dynamic load rating?
850 lb static load and 450 lb dynamic load. This means up to 850 lb when parked (e.g., gear stored, rooftop tent setup) and up to 450 lb in motion (e.g., kayaks, bikes, roof box).
Are the locks keyed-alike across all access points?
Yes. All 4 access panels on each Ford Trucks cap share the same keyed-alike locks — one key opens all sides. Replacement keys available by emailing info@tkmauto.com with your order number.
Does aluminum hold up in cold and snowy climates?
Aluminum doesn't rust, which is its main advantage over steel and over-painted fiberglass in salt-belt states. The cap uses EPDM-sealed gaskets weather-tight against rain, snow, and road salt.
Can I remove the cap myself if needed?
Yes, the cap is bolt-on so removal reverses the install — unclamp the stainless rail clamps and lift off with two helpers. Removal takes about 30-45 minutes. The cap reinstalls in the same time as the original install.
How does TKMAUTO compare to LEER, A.R.E., or fiberglass alternatives?
TKMAUTO is aluminum-built (about 180 lb) versus typical fiberglass caps (about 280 lb). We ship direct-to-consumer with free U.S. shipping, while LEER and A.R.E. are dealer-only with separate freight charges. Aluminum doesn't crack, rust, or yellow from UV like fiberglass can over years of use.
What payment options are available for the Ford Trucks cap?
Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, Diners, JCB, UnionPay), Shop Pay, PayPal, Google Pay, and Venmo. Shop Pay Installments available for orders $50-$17,500 — see your specific payment plan at checkout.
